Hey guys,

I can't believe it's already August. It feels like this year is flying by but also not at the same time. Growing up,  I believe we always started school at the end of August. One of my favorite seasons is fall. Not because of going back to school fully but because all of the new school supplies. I thought it would be fun to create a back to school tag for graduates!

1. What year did you graduate high school? 2009
2. What was your favorite subject? English
3. What was your least favorite subject? Humanities (Math would be a close second)
4. Did you have a favorite teacher? I had a lot of favorite teachers :)
5. Did you have any teachers that you just disliked? Yes, who didn't?
6. Did you play any sports? Track my junior year
7. Did you like going back to school? Yes and no. I liked getting new supplies.
8. Were you ever tardy? Umm... Yes
9. Did you ever get suspended? Not out of school suspension (OSS) but in school suspension (ISS) for being tardy too many times/unexcused absences.
10. Did you go to any dances? Homecoming, like once
11. If you had the chance, would you ever go back to high school? Yes and no

15 Tips For Going Into High School

Hey guys,

So, I know it has been a few years since I begun high school..okay...maybe like 12.. I graduated high school in May of '09. I remember going into high school because who doesn't? Back then, I was the shy student so I was a little nervous how high school would be for me. In middle school, we had 6 different classes but the school only had one floor while the high school had two floors. If you're going into high school or even still in high school, these tips can still help you.

  1.  Be yourself. It's a lot easier making friends that way because you show off who you are truly and others can see that.
  2. Don't change for anyone-any friends or especially guys. If they are your friend then they should like you for you.
  3. This is something that I didn't do too much but join groups and sports aka extra-curricular activities. I helped backstage for a musical in my freshman year and then did track my junior year. Today thinking back, I wished I joined more extra curricular activities.
  4. Use a planner!! Planners help you stay organized and on track really well. Your planner should become your best friend that reminds you of tests and quizzes that are coming up, assignments that are due, sports practices, and other important information.
  5. When you're done with an assignment, highlight it so you know that you completed it.
  6. Use flashcards to study for vocabulary or other important key terms/concepts.
  7. Make the flashcards colorful so they are appealing to look at.
  8. Grades are not just important in your junior and senior year. Your G.P.A is from your entire high school years.
  9. If you don't fully understand something, ask your teacher if you could come in early or stay after school for additional help. I had to do that a few times when I was in high school.
  10. Take the electives that YOU want to take and not just because your friends signed up for those electives . If you don't like art but your friends are taking art, don't take art. Sign up for electives that interests you, and that's another way to make new friends.
  11. Try to not be tardy or have too many absences (especially unexcused ones) because then you'll miss a day or that class and feel behind because you missed learning and information that happened that day.
  12. Follow the dress-code!
  13. Don't get involved in the drama that happens in high school. I actually transferred schools the beginning of my senior year due to the drama (I can write a post on that). If you see drama, just walk away from it. It's useless and just cause more drama and it will continue.
  14. Remember that these are only 4 years of your life, and they go by fast.
  15. High school prepares you for college (whether you go to an on-campus college or an online campus). If you don't keep track of your assignments, grades and etc. in high school, then any type of college might be a little bit tricky for you.
What grade are you going into this year?

10 Tips For Starting High School

It's almost back to school time and I thought I would give you guys 10 tips on starting high school.  High school is a big transition for some people. You begin at a small elementary school then move onto middle school which is a larger building and then end at a bigger building for high school.
  1. Be yourself! Peer pressure is a big thing in high school. If you don't want to try out for a sport but your friends want you to, then don't. You should be involved in sports and other activities only if you want to and enjoy it. This also goes for peer pressure when your friends try to make you start smoking and etc. Say No and just walk away. If they continue to peer pressure you, you should think about if they are true friends and if you should remain friends with them.
  2. My second tip goes along with the last part of tip #1, and that's is that your friend group will change. In my experience, I had 2 really close friends pretty much my whole middle school years and when we got into high school near the end of the year, I kind of drifted away from them. I'm not really sure what happened, I don't think we had a fight but then again, sometimes people just change.
  3. Do your homework. Some teachers might let you turn it in late but most often teachers won't.It's just easier to get it turned in when it's due.
  4. When you have knowledge of an essay that you have to write, get started on it as soon as you can so you can have enough time to add to it and revise it.
  5. When you have a test or a quiz, study, study, study!! If you don't understand something completely, ask a classmate who understands it to explain it to you or ask your teacher.
  6. Don't skip or play hooky because you will just have more homework to do the next night or if you get caught, you might get suspended.
  7. Highlighters and different color pens are great tools for note taking.
  8. Use flashcards (index cards) for studying vocabulary words or terms you need to know for a test. Once you know the definition of the word or term, put it in a separate pile so you know that you already know those words and can focus on the ones you don't.
  9. Use a planner!!! A tip I have for planners is to use a different colored pen for each class and use that pen to write your homework or test date in your planner. Once you're done with the homework, you can just highlight it or put a little check by it so you can see that you completed your homework.
  10. My last tip is to not rush these four years because they actually go by really fast. This school year marks the 8th year I have been out of high school and sometimes I miss it because it was so much easier back then.

Seven Years Ago

This is the month of high school graduations and I can't believe that I will be graduated for seven years at the end of this month; May 27th.  Our class song was " It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday" by Boyz To Men. I voted for "For Good"to be our class song but unfortunately that song choice lost.  Our senior all-nigher was at this building with a pool, a gym, concession stands, air tattoos(I got 2), a money tornado machine(I got$7,lol)and there was a hypnotist, which didn't get me.

Our gifts from the senior parents were a yellow lunch tote with a 6-pack of sprite in it,a target gift card I believe, a movie gift card, a free Slurpee card for-11(that I never used), a speedway gift card a flash drive and a throw blanket that says "Class of 2009" on it. I got back home around 6:30 in the morning and one of my brothers and his partner bought me a three musketeers, ice cream, a container of small cupcakes, and a box of Swiss rolls.

Congratulations to all of the seniors who are graduating this year from high school and college!
