15 Tips For Going Into High School

Hey guys,

So, I know it has been a few years since I begun high school..okay...maybe like 12.. I graduated high school in May of '09. I remember going into high school because who doesn't? Back then, I was the shy student so I was a little nervous how high school would be for me. In middle school, we had 6 different classes but the school only had one floor while the high school had two floors. If you're going into high school or even still in high school, these tips can still help you.

  1.  Be yourself. It's a lot easier making friends that way because you show off who you are truly and others can see that.
  2. Don't change for anyone-any friends or especially guys. If they are your friend then they should like you for you.
  3. This is something that I didn't do too much but join groups and sports aka extra-curricular activities. I helped backstage for a musical in my freshman year and then did track my junior year. Today thinking back, I wished I joined more extra curricular activities.
  4. Use a planner!! Planners help you stay organized and on track really well. Your planner should become your best friend that reminds you of tests and quizzes that are coming up, assignments that are due, sports practices, and other important information.
  5. When you're done with an assignment, highlight it so you know that you completed it.
  6. Use flashcards to study for vocabulary or other important key terms/concepts.
  7. Make the flashcards colorful so they are appealing to look at.
  8. Grades are not just important in your junior and senior year. Your G.P.A is from your entire high school years.
  9. If you don't fully understand something, ask your teacher if you could come in early or stay after school for additional help. I had to do that a few times when I was in high school.
  10. Take the electives that YOU want to take and not just because your friends signed up for those electives . If you don't like art but your friends are taking art, don't take art. Sign up for electives that interests you, and that's another way to make new friends.
  11. Try to not be tardy or have too many absences (especially unexcused ones) because then you'll miss a day or that class and feel behind because you missed learning and information that happened that day.
  12. Follow the dress-code!
  13. Don't get involved in the drama that happens in high school. I actually transferred schools the beginning of my senior year due to the drama (I can write a post on that). If you see drama, just walk away from it. It's useless and just cause more drama and it will continue.
  14. Remember that these are only 4 years of your life, and they go by fast.
  15. High school prepares you for college (whether you go to an on-campus college or an online campus). If you don't keep track of your assignments, grades and etc. in high school, then any type of college might be a little bit tricky for you.
What grade are you going into this year?

Starting High School Advice 2017-2018

Hey guys,

The school year is slowly coming to a start. I'm not too sure who exactly reads my blog but if you're not starting high school or in high school yourself but know someone who is, send them the link to this post and it might be helpful to them. Even though I graduated a few years ago in 2009, I still remember how nervous I was my first day of high school.  I have complied a few tips for you on starting high school:

  1. Be yourself! You want to make friendships with people to are like you and have the same interests as you. You don't want to pretend you act this way or another or like something that they like when you dislike whatever that is.
  2. You don't have to impress anyone! This goes along with #1 but you go to school to learn and interact with classmates but you shouldn't dress a certain way to impress someone. Not saying don't look cute for your crush though.
  3. Do NOT procrastinate! A good idea is to use a planner to write down all of your homework and tests and quizzes. My high schools (yes, I went to 2) provided agendas for us to use but if your school doesn't, stores like Wal-mart or Target has them.
  4. Don't skip/don't play hooky! Although you might think your Humanities class might be boring and you would rather be somewhere else, just tell yourself that you only have this class for one hour of your day and if you dread going to that class everyday, it is just going to make yourself slack off and you'll end up doing bad in the class and have to take it over.
  5. If you're able to, join a sport team or club! In my freshmen year, I helped with the musical and then my junior year I joined the track and field team and even though I was a terrible runner, I still made some great friends.
I hope you have a great school year regardless of what grade you're entering

Advice Wanted?

One of my main purposes for making this blog was to help young teens/young adults. I know being a young teen/young adult, life can be hard at times and there are times when you feel like you have nobody to go to for advice or just someone to talk to. I have added a contact form on the side if anyone wants or need to contact me if they need/want advice of just need someone to talk to. I know how it feels when you think nobody is there for you but I just want you to know that you'll have one person,me.

My Passion Of Helping Others

Ever since my brothers I were little, my dad taught us about helping those in need and paying it forward.  We learned that there will always be someone in a worse situation than ours.  He even started a charity where we would collect winter clothing and necessaries throughout the year and the Saturday morning before Christmas we,along with family and friends, go downtown and pass out the items to the homeless.

My passion has always been helping children so that's why I decided on Early Childhood Development as my major in college. I want to give back what my teachers gave me; support, encouragement and the feeling of them wanting me to be successful.I want to teach children from the start, right from wrong.

One main reason that I started this blog was to help people. I want to give advice to young teens and young adults,if they need or want advice, or just need someone to talk to. I've been through stuff, especially bullying for many years. I created a Facebook page, a Twitter and an e-mail. Feel free to contact me on any of those if you need someone to talk to or advice.
